FURTHER DETAILS

Chopin’s Birthday

Fryderyck is 200 this year, and would love you to come to his party!    Because of
overwhelming interest this has been extended from the original two days to include the previous
Friday.    There will be master classes with Kate and our wonderful friend Masa Tayama, one of the
world’s finest pianists, and a lecture-recital.   One whole morning  (Sunday) is devoted to young
pianists – musical games and performance classes – any standard up to about grade 3.

Celebrating Cristifori, A Practical History of the Piano and its Predecessors.

In this, Kate and Stephen will introduce you to the development of the modern piano, using
the instruments in Benslow’s collection, namely harpsichord, spinet, clavichord, square piano
and modern grand.     The course starts at
7.00pm on the Tuesday and ends at 4.00pm on the
Thursday.   Participants should prepare pieces to play on each instrument before they arrive
(Messrs Bach, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Handel, and others are eagerly waiting to assist).

Easy Piano Course

The course starts at 7.00pm on the Friday evening with dinner and a session of instruction, and
   continues to
4.00 pm on the Sunday.    This is for pianists with some experience, between approximately
grades 1 and 3.   All  courses include solo workshops, ensemble playing, aural and technical problems in
   an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Kick Start Piano Courses

If you played some years ago, and would like to revive your skills, or if you have reached a
plateau in your performing and need a special boost to get going again, this is for you.
The
   course starts at
7.00pm on the Friday evening with dinner and a session of instruction, and continues to
   4.00 pm
on the Sunday.    All  courses include solo workshops, ensemble playing, aural and technical
problems in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Non-Competitive Music Festival

Our first Non-Comp Festival in 2009 was a great success, and this will now be a regular in our
syllabus, and for all instruments (including voice), not just piano!      It is for people of all ages and
all stages, from beginner to professional performer, each of whom will receive a written
assessment of their outpourings on the day, and a chance to try out a few new musical ideas.

Professional Development Course for Piano Teachers

Piano teachers often work in isolation, with no-one to share their problems and
aspirations.      This course is designed to introduce you to repertoire which may be unfamiliar
and to address matters such as choice of tutor books, organisation of a lesson and practising,
   dealing with parents, approach to
exams, invoicing and bad debt control etc., etc.

Schumann’s Birthday

Like Fryderick, Robert is 200 this year, and is having a party, to which all are invited.  The
format will be similar to that for Chopins’ Birthday Party.

Voice and Piano Adventure

This is for singers who need to learn the skills of working with a pianist, and pianists who
need to become proficient in handling the demands of a singer and, indeed, any instrumentalist
whom they may accompany.      The course begins with breakfast on the Sunday when you can
meet Christine and Kate and the other participants.
